Rangeland Infrastructure

It is excellent and very well thought out, making this farm very easy to manage. 11 camps, 1,2m high 5-strand strong stock proof fence, each with access to water. The fences and other infrastructure are in an excellent condition. 1x large cattle handling facility with crush, loading ramp & sorting kraals at main post. There is 2 smaller sorting camps at the outposts. The posts are interconnected by a central cattle management corridor, which makes for ease of management. The middle post has a worker’s house of 19m²

Water supply:

The 3x water points is well equipped, with ample water. Water is pumped with a combination of windmill and/or solar power. Short pipelines interconnect all the boreholes and feed water into the reservoirs and drinking troughs located throughout the camps. In the entire region, the water table is about 15 -25metres and boreholes sunk to a maximum depth of 50 meters.

Main Farmstead

This is very practical and well-built; it is designed as a weekend getaway for a city-based businessman. The main dwelling is an 87m² building with a 48m² steel veranda on two sides. All floors are tiled. The lounge, kitchen and dining tracts are an L-shaped open-plan living area. This leads off to two bedrooms, and a bathroom with shower and a separate toilet. Electricity is provided by four sun panels, inverter, and batteries.

Veld:

The vled is open Savanna, with camel thorn, geelhout- and Kalahari appelblaar trees and shrubs, candle acacia, kudu bush, rosyntiebos and short fodder bushes. The veld is an excellent type, located on sandy soil and the bush and trees present have an incredible feed value and sustain livestock and game during dry seasons. The farm lies in an area of high and consistent rainfall of 400mm and more per annum.

Ranching:
Livestock production: this property is right in the prime producing area of the country. The cattle we saw was in excellent condition. Small stock on other farms was in excellent condition as well.

Hunting:
Langplaas is surrounded by conservation-conscious neighbours, and the owner does not hunt. Therefore, it has a very healthy game population. The large plains animals are represented mainly by oryx, kudu and eland. Smaller game is warthog, duiker, steenbok and according to the farmworker Damara dik dik as well.
Birdlife:
Birdliofe Is plentiful, consisting mainly of red-eyed francolin, guinea fowl and several species of dove.
Harpago(Devils Claw)
The farm is part of a production area for this crop, a farm nearby is certified as organic producer of Harpago. We believe that with hands on management the farm will give an excellent return from a diversity of activities.
